January 31, 2014:  We are proud to announce that Ryan has partnered with a veteran condominium and homeowners' association manager to launch VERA Property Management, a new community association management company serving the Tampa Bay Area.  Accounting Clinic will provide bookkeeping, federal tax filing, financial statement preparation and budget drafting services to VERA's clientele. Nov. 8, 2013: The IRS has issued several statements in recent weeks warning taxpayers to be aware of a phone scam that is targeting people across the nation. As part of the scam, the callers claim to be from the IRS and tell intended victims that they owe taxes and must pay them using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The callers threaten their victims with arrest, deportation and/or loss of their driver’s license. The callers often know the last four digits of the victims’ SSNs and offer fake IRS badge numbers. The caller ID will suggest that the call is from the IRS. Do not be fooled. The IRS almost always contacts taxpayers in writing first regarding taxes owed and will not ask for credit/ debit card number over the phone. If you receive a call and are unsure, hang up and contact the IRS at 800-829-1040. If you know that you were contacted by a phone scam participant, contact the Treasury Inspector General at 800-366-4484. Any scam emails should be forwarded to phishing@irs.gov.

Oct. 21, 2013: The IRS has announced that, due to the recent Government shut-down, the start date for the 2014 tax filing season may be delayed up to 2 weeks.  A final decision will be announced in December, though taxpayers should prepare for a delayed start in 2014.  What does this mean for you?  Well, while your 2014 tax return is still due by April 15th, you will not be able to submit a tax return until late February (assuming a full 2 week delay).  An automatic 6-month extension is still available for all filers.  However, as with any tax year, an extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay.  Feel free to contact us today to learn more about how this potential delay could affect your 2014 tax filing.
